These two excellent Harmar products are located in our Showroom in Manassas, VA (directions and hours). Both stairway lifts are fully functional and ready to be tested.
Imagine an elevator that’s visually stunning, super-quiet, and virtually incapable of free-falling or getting stuck between floors. While this might sound – and even look – like something from science fiction, it isn’t. Pneumatic vacuum technology is one of the most exciting developments in the world of home elevators, ever – and you can try it yourself at our Manassas, Virginia showroom.
A pneumatic vacuum elevator hardly resembles the familiar box, cables, and shaft that we think of when we say “elevator.” It consists of a long clear tube running through the floors of the house, with another shorter tube (the “car”) inside it. Quietly operating air pumps create or release pressure to elevate and lower the car, much like a giant version of the document transportation tubes still used in banks and office buildings.
The visual appeal of a pneumatic vacuum elevator is self-evident, but the safety benefits are just as important. Where mechanical elevators must have a system of locks, brakes, and releases to ensure that the car can’t freefall or get stuck, a vacuum elevator is safe from these hazards by its very nature. So instead of being protected by physical locks and springs, the riders are protected by physics itself.
You see, once the air is pressurized to raise the car, it will take a certain amount of time for that air to leak out even if something should go wrong. This means that, barring catastrophic damage to the tube, the car cannot fall; it can only descend slowly and gracefully to the first floor. By the same token, an air-borne elevator is hardly capable of getting “stuck” between floors. There’s no chain or cable to “stick” on!
When you ride a pneumatic vacuum elevator, you’re literally riding the future of this industry. We hope a “test drive” of this amazing technology won’t be too far in your future. Can we look to see you at ourManassas showroom soon?
We recently received this nice note from Terry and Harriet Sopher, who were expressing their appreciation of our service standards.
I’ve been an Area Access customer for 15 years. As discussed on the phone, I am writing to commend Stacy Richard and Ezequiel Gutierrez for superb customer service. In the last month, we’ve begun the search for a newer vehicle to transport me and my scooter on out-of-state trips for medical treatment. As we’ve considered a variety of vehicles, it’s required frequent consulting with Stacy and Ezequiel regarding constraints, options, and limitations of various vehicles for accommodating a Bruno lift.
Throughout this process, Stacy and Ezequiel have been terrific – patient, understanding, and very responsive; extremely cordial, treating me like an old friend. They each have great communication skills, and have been effective in getting me to understand lift considerations (this is a challenge because I have neurocognitive problems that let me get confused very easily). They never make me feel like I am a burden or that I am imposing with too many questions. That’s very much appreciated by someone like me with medical disabilities! (It’s sometimes surprising that some medical providers reflect a “don’t care/can’t be bothered” attitude. THAT is never an attitude encountered at Area Access, so I am especially appreciative of that as well).
Both of them also are adept at anticipating questions I had not thought of, and they took the initiative to call those matters to my attention – that’s been very helpful in our further analysis of vehicles.
It is clear to me that Stacy and Ezequiel are top notch professionals dedicated to excellence in customer service. So we are deeply appreciative of them. And that’s why we will continue to be happy Area Access customers. Thank you all!

Thanks to Terry and Harriet for taking a moment to express their thoughts. Every day we strive to make sure their experience is typical!
This past August, we enjoyed hosting a meeting of the Virginia Elevator Safety Association (VAESA). Area Acces is an active member of this volunteer, consensus organization dedicated to improving the elevator industry in the Commonwealth of Virginia. These gatherings always present a good opportunity for elevator professionals to get together, enjoy each other’s company, and most of all, learn from one another.
During the August meeting, the first educational topic was presented by our own Kenny Hardee. Kenny gave a talk onpneumatic vacuum elevators, an exciting new lifting technology that is growing rapidly in popularity. Also on hand was Stefan Gruber, a representative from the manufacturer who makes these remarkable elevators. After his presentation, Kenny and Stefan fielded a number of questions, and there was a good discussion on the topic.
Because the meeting was held in our office, attendees were able to see and handle an actual operational pneumatic vacuum elevator. Inspection and testing procedures were also demonstrated.
After lunch, the attendees watched a presentation by Sandi Morris from the Department Of Housing And Community Development regarding some upcoming state code changes. There was an opportunity for questions and answers.
While some of this might not sound terribly exciting to the average person, gatherings like this one are vitally important for our industry. Through education and open discussion, we all get better at what we do, and we help to keep our industry moving toward the highest standard of excellence.
A special greeting of Thanksgiving. We’d like to express to you our sincere appreciation for your confidence and loyalty. We are deeply thankful and extend to you our best wishes for a happy and healthy Thanksgiving Day. Holiday specials below!
